Hide yo scandals, hide yo affairs, because Ricky Gervais wasn’t holding back at the 2016 Golden Globes! The British comedian, 54, hosted the annual show for the fourth time, taking not-so-subtle jabs at any and everyone famous he could think of.
The Derek star mocked Caitlyn Jenner’s driving after she was involved in a fatal car crash in early 2015, quipped that Ben Affleck was unfaithful to his ex Jennifer Garner and even brought Mel Gibson on stage, asking him “what the f–k does ‘sugar tits’ mean?”
Gervais also had a cringeworthy moment when he quipped that Spotlight — the nominated film exposing the Catholic church’s years of hiding child molestation — was “the best date movie ever,” according to director Roman Polanski.
He also took a swing at Jennifer Lawrence for her essay fighting for the gender pay gap, joking, “There were marches on the street with nurses and factory workers saying, ‘How the hell can a 25-year-old live on $52 million?’ There were plumbers around the world going, ‘poor girl.'”
Despite the jaw-dropping jokes, many online found the host to be hilarious, commending him for a job well done. Of course, there were some who took offense as well.
Here were some of the internet’s reactions.
Ricky Gervais was the best part about last night’s Golden Globes, everything else was B.O.R.I.N.G.!!

Laughed so hard last night, @rickygervais killed it at #TheGoldenGlobes. It was fun to see which celebs had no sense of humor.

I think we know what happened here. We can’t ever have Ricky Gervais host anything ever again

Ricky Gervais… the trash, get in it now.

Is it just me or is Ricky Gervais an unfunny prick? If he got punched in the nose it wouldn’t be a real shock. #goldenglobes ??

@rickygervais I’m offended that it wasn’t offensive enough.

Ricky Gervais’ “jokes” about Caitlyn Jenner were nowhere near funny. Disgusting.
