Was the kiss platonic or passionate? Leah Remini defended her best friend, Jennifer Lopez, over her onstage smooch with her ex-husband Marc Anthony at the Latin Grammys on November 17. Watch what she said in the clip above!
During the King of Queens alum’s appearance on Watch What Happens Live on Thursday, December 1, host Andy Cohen asked whether the PDA was the reason for Anthony’s recent split from his fourth wife, Shannon De Lima. News broke of the couple’s separation the day after Anthony, 48, locked lips with his ex in front of the Las Vegas audience and millions of TV viewers.
“Absolutely not, that is not the reason,” Remini said. “Marc’s separation had happened already, clearly way before that.”
The Troublemaker: Surviving Hollywood and Scientology author, 46, explained her view on the situation. “I thought it was an innocent kiss between two parents and two friends,” she said. “I love them onstage together, and I love that they still perform.”
Lopez and Anthony called it quits in 2011 after seven years of marriage, but they continue to amicably coparent their 8-year-old twins, Max and Emme.
While Remini may have insisted that the kiss was platonic, sources previously told Us Weekly that the “Dimelo” singer is “still in love” with the Shades of Blue actress, and that he is “trying to get back together with her.”
Lopez, 47, split with her younger choreographer boyfriend, Casper Smart, in August, and at the time, Anthony’s marriage to De Lima was already going through a rough patch. “As soon as he heard Jennifer split with Casper, he wanted out,” the insider told Us.
The duo announced in October that Anthony and his company will be producing the “Ain’t Your Mama” songstress’ upcoming Spanish album. “[They] have magic when they sing together,” the source said. “That’s how they came together last time. There is just this chemistry between them.”
