Rose McGowan Wore a Star Trek-Inspired, Purple Felt Hat on the Red Carpet: “Tonight Was 1930s Vulcan”

Rose McGowan
Rose McGowan said that her purple hat at the Fashion Los Angeles Awards on Jan. 22 was "1930s Vulcan" -- we have questions!

Trust: Rose McGowan is always ready to take on a bold style move.

The Charmed alum, 41, attended the Fashion Los Angeles Awards at the Sunset Tower Hotel in West Hollywood on Thursday, Jan. 22, clad in an all-black ensemble and one unexpected accessory: a purple felt cap in the shape of a jagged bob haircut.

For those a little curious, McGowan explained that the inspiration behind her special headwear was both pop culture-related and historical. “I’m officially starting my awesome hat week. Tonight was 1930s Vulcan,” she tweeted, adding the hashtag, “#millinery.” (For the non-initiated, the unexpressive Vulcan species of the Star Trek series can easily be identified by their pointy ears and short cropped haircuts.)

If McGowan’s tweet wasn’t facetious, we have seven more days of kooky caps to look forward to. But, on that night at least, the actress wasn’t the only person rocking a purple ‘do on the red carpet: Katy Perry, clad in head-to-toe Moschino Barbie pink, also debuted violet tresses.

While the hat could be considered a style misstep by some, McGowan was enjoying a banner day all the same. Hours before the event, Variety announced that the actress would be making her directorial debut with the thriller, The Pines, set to begin filming in the fall.
