Looking to score the heavenly mixed-print outfits that Mindy Kaling rocked on The Mindy Project on Sept. 30? Look no further, as Us Weekly and Mindy Project costume designer Salvador Perez break down the most mesmerizing outfits from “Crimes & Misdemeanors & Ex-BFs.”
As a master of mixing prints, Perez paired the aqua plaid blouse by Michael Kors with a bold polka dot skirt by Ann Taylor, finishing it with LK Bennett pumps and BaubleBar earrings. “This is part of a montage scene, so I needed to make a statement with each look,” Perez tells Us. “If I just explained the outfit, it would sound weird, but when you see it together, it blends so beautifully.”
“When I first showed this dress to Mindy, she didn’t like it because it was a little matronly, but I said let me work my magic,” Perez says of the Donna Ricco shift. While a magician usually never spills his secrets, Perez says he added edge with the cream Bebe belt, bright yellow LK Bennett heels, Chanel cross body bag, and BaubleBar earrings. “It ended up being one of Mindy’s favorite outfits,” he says of the final look.
Perez brightened up Dr. Lahiri’s work look with this neon floral skirt by Karen Millen (which sold out after Kaling posted the outfit on Instagram!), lime Bailey44 blouse, and champagne Topshop blazer.
For this work-appropriate outfit, Perez paired the C. Wonder blouse with a coral skirt by Antonio Melani and brown Salvatore Ferragamo pumps. “The silhouettes are basic, but what makes it interesting is the color and print,” he tells Us. “Some bold statement earrings by BaubleBar and a simple bright headband make it a signature Mindy look.”
