Rocking it as only Lupita could! Lupita Nyong’o worked an eye-popping, metallic blue lip to the London premiere of Star Wars: The Force Awakens on Wednesday, December, 16, and her makeup artist tells Us Weekly exactly why she chose the hue.
“We went for a bold, unexpected blue lip to complement the metallic Proenza Schouler design,” Nick Barose, Nyongo’s go-to makeup artist, explains.

Indeed, the Oscar-winning actress, 32, modeled a black peplum dress with a netted skirt embellished with shimmering pearls, which played off her azure pout perfectly. The trick? Looking beyond lipstick.
“The key to making the look daring yet sophisticated was breaking the rules to get the lip right,” Barose tells Us. “We played with [eye] shadows to get a blue shade that was deep and rich, but not overly edgy.”

The makeup artist, who also works with Alicia Vikander and Tessa Thompson, prepped the Lancôme brand ambassador’s lips with Absolue Nourishing Lip Balm Honey-in-Rose, lined them with Drama Liqui-Pencil Longwear Eye Liner in Minuit, and then applied Color Design Sensational Effects Eye Shadow in Sapphire Lace, all by the beauty line.
Keeping the rest of her look subdued, Barose added just a touch of shimmer to the Jungle Book actress’ cheeks with Blush Subtil in Shimmer Petite Pomegranate. And off she went to the galactic gala!
