The supreme chanteuse has returned — and she’s brought her signature style with her!

On Friday, Oct. 23, Adele released her first single in three years, “Hello,” and premiered the song’s heartbreaker of a music video along with it. And while we were busy staring at the 27-year-old Grammy darling’s stunning face during repeat viewings, we were reminded of her favorite beauty choice: her winged liner.

“Adele’s cat eye has a soft Brigitte Bardot, ’60s-esque appeal,” Smashbox lead makeup artist Lori Taylor-Davis tells Us Weekly. “Her brows are a lot stronger, with a deeper contour and longer lashes. Her style has definitely intensified.”

To steal the singer’s signature beauty look, you first have to start with the perfect product — and it’s not liquid liner. “I would have to say my favorite kind to create a cat eye is a pen liner with a felt tip,” Taylor-Davis shares. “It glides across the eye lid effortlessly and is buildable.”

Tip two: Prime those lids! “Even out the lid by using a primer. Then, apply a light matte shadow from the inner corner of the eye to the natural crease,” the makeup pro explains. “You can also add depth to the eye by adding a soft taupe shade to the crease area of your lid. Having that creates an outline, and it’s also a great primer for a more intensified cat eye” — a la Adele’s.

Adele rocks the heck out of her winged eyeliner in the “Hello” music video, dropped on Oct. 23.

Finally, don’t forget to consider the shape of your eye. “Almond shape eyes get the easiest cat eye — just follow the shape of the eye,” Taylor-Davis says. “If your eyes are upturned, the tip should be more natural — less winged-out. On the other hand, you should balance down-turned eyes with an up-turned wing. For round eyes, do a tight line that gets thicker at the end — that will create the illusion of an almond shape.”

Eyeliners
Three pen liners — from Smashbox, Lancome, and Revlon — to get you Adele’s cat eye.

Of course, the liner pen is at the heart of Taylor-Davis’ tips, so we rounded up three for you to try: Smashbox’s Limitless Liquid Liner Pen, her personal favorite ($22, Macys.com), Lancome Artliner Precision Point Eyeliner ($30.50, Sephora.com), or Revlon ColorStay Liquid Eye Pen ($9.99, Ulta.com).
