The 39-year-old Confirmation star, who is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or a Television Movie, outfitted her burgeoning belly in a black strapless gown by Brandon Maxwell. The custom-made creation, paired with simple black sandals, featured two cutouts underneath the bust along with a floor-skimming cape. Antique diamond drop earrings by Fred Leighton added a finishing touch to the simple and stunning look.
Though the mom of Isabelle, 2, with husband Nnamdi Asomugha, sizzled in her LBD, our focus was on her hair. Longtime stylist Takisha Sturdivant-Drew gave Washington a head full of rockstar-worthy curls accomplished with clip-ins from her line, TSD Hair Extensions, per a September 18 Instagram.
“From the moment I saw Kerry’s Brandon Maxwell dress, I felt the it was minimal yet edgy with the peek-a-boo cutouts,” the pro, who also works with Gabrielle Union and Leona Lewis, tells Stylish. “My inspiration was her baby bump. I still wanted to keep her look modern and fresh even though she’s expecting. I really wanted the hair to stand out — that’s why I styled it with a lot of texture but still show her face with a middle part.”
Washington, who’s filming the sixth season of Scandal, talked about how she hides her figure on set during a Wednesday, September 7, episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show. “Big coats, big bags … hiding behind different body parts of other actors,” she said. She added that “bigger body parts” of her costars do the trick as well.
