Hang ten! Cynthia Rowley — whose funky patterns and swimwear have captured celeb fans like Blake Lively and Kesha — took Us Weekly inside her NYC showroom. Watch today’s Red Carpet Daily, presented by AT&T, to get a sneak peek at her spring/summer 2017 resort fashions!
Rowley, 58, is known for her love of color and print, which she says comes from her travel obsession. “I love adventure. I love a far-flung destination,” she told Us at her Manhattan studio space. “[My designs are] a real mix of a lot of different influences. I try to see as much as I can for inspiration. … It just all goes in and you never know where or how it’s going to come out.”
Her love of getaways might also be why she shows so many vacation-inspired pieces. “I always throw in some wet suits and swim [in my resort line] — it just has a relaxed vibe,” she explains. “I’ve been making wet suits for a really long time. I live for the water. I love to surf.”
And when it comes to mixing and matching patterns on your own, just follow your heart, she says. “You should mix the most unexpected things,” Rowley told Us Weekly’s video correspondent Jackie Miranne. “Put it together in a way that’s just really personal for you.”
