Chop, chop! Ashley Graham debuted a brand-new angular bob at the MTV Video Music Awards 2016 at Madison Square Garden in NYC on Sunday, August 28. See what she told Us Weekly Video about her new look in the clip above!
The Sports Illustrated Swim model, 28, hit the red carpet with her naturally dark tresses hitting just below her chin, styled in dripping, tousled waves, parted on the side. Ahead of her appearance at the awards show, Graham sported a wavy lob, which grazed her collarbone.
Celebrity hairstylist for Dove Renato Campora snipped about 3 inches from Graham’s locks before she hit the red carpet. He then decided to go textured and wet after seeing her sexy, sheer Naeem Khan gown, which she paired with Stuart Weitzman heels. “[I loved] the shimmer, the see-through [of my dress]. I get to show a little body [and I got] a little fun, fresh new cut!” Graham told Us Weekly’s video correspondent Christina Garibaldi at the VMAs.
“I knew I wanted to do something unexpected and beautiful to complement the modern sexiness of her dress,” Campora told Us Weekly. “I sent Ashley a few sketches, but this one was my favorite (hers too!) as we loved how effortless and chic it was.”
A bonus? “It’s the perfect way to stay cool on a humid New York night!” explained Campora, who has also worked with Margot Robbie and Mila Kunis.
To achieve her look, the L.A.-based hairstylist applied a dollop of Dove Curls Defining Mousse, working it from her roots to ends, and then scrunching with his hands. Then, he simply let her hair air-dry while she got her makeup done.
As a final step, before Graham walked out the door, he locked in the wet ‘do by liberally spraying Dove Extra Hold Hairspray.
