And so it begins! The 2016 awards season kicked off with the 27th Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards Gala on Saturday, January 2, at the Parker Palm Springs Hotel, where the ladies stunned in their designer best.
Amber Heard modeled a black lace dress by Dolce & Gabbana, paired with Brian Atwood shoes (and her dapper husband, Johnny Depp, of course). Heard, 29, was on hand to present the Rising Star Award to her The Danish Girl costar Alicia Vikander.

Speaking of Vikander, the Ex Machina actress, 27, who is up for two Golden Globe Awards at the January 11 ceremony, showed off her feminine side in a ruffled, bubblegum-pink Erdem dress, paired with nude ankle-strap sandals.
Cate Blanchett, who picked up the Desert Palm Achievement Award for her role in Carol, stunned, as always, in a pale blue Marc Jacobs dress, complete with gold-sequined floral embellishment. She teamed the style with Salvatore Ferragamo heels and Tiffany & Co. jewels, including a gold, diamond and emerald bracelet.

And rounding out our best dressed list, Kate Winslet worked her hourglass shape in a formfitting Roland Mouret dress with an open back. She presented the International Star Award to her Steve Jobs costar Michael Fassbender (who confessed right as he hit the stage, “Kate just told me not to f–k this up!”)
