Amnesia or shade? Celebrities don’t always have the most vivid memories — especially when it comes to one another. In, well, unforgettable interviews, stars like Britney Spears and Mariah Carey claim to have never met fellow A-listers such as Jennifer Lopez, Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift — despite solid evidence to the contrary.
In Us Weekly Video’s roundup above, watch as Spears recalls having no idea who Bieber was when she first met the baby-faced (but already famous) “Love Yourself” singer three years ago. The “Do You Wanna Come Over?” singer recalled, “He walks into my hotel room and he was, like, a kid!” She continued, “I was like, ‘Who is this kid in my hotel?’ And my assistant was like, ‘This is Justin Bieber.’” The “Sorry” singer was 16 years old at the time, but has since made quite an impression on Spears, who then asked BBC Radio 1, “Didn’t he, like, expose himself? That was insane.”
Remember when the Crossroads star said she hadn’t met Swift? Remind yourself with the video above of Spears’ July 31 interview with Australia’s Kyle & Jackie O.
Although the pop singers met at the 2008 VMAs, the “Make Me…” singer saw only a blank space when asked to chose who she’d rather sit next to on a 24-hour flight, Swift or the “Bad Blood” singer’s nemesis, Katy Perry. She remembered meeting the “Roar” singer and answered, “Maybe because I’ve met Katy Perry, I would say Taylor Swift because I’ve never met her before.”
Heading into shadier territory, Carey has repeatedly claimed to have never met Lopez. Her infamous “I don’t know her” response in the early ’00s retains a prime spot in the hall of shade history, and many including Andy Cohen have attempted to discern the truth about the singers’ relationship ever since.
In the video, relive Carey’s answer about whether she knows the Latina bombshell.
