‘Walking Dead’ Fans Start Petition Demanding AMC Reveal Negan’s Victim

Give the people what they want! Fans of The Walking Dead were outraged by the spine-tingling cliffhanger that left one of the series’ main characters bludgeoned to death on the Sunday, April 3, season finale — so much so that they’ve started a petition for AMC to reveal the victim’s identity.

“I would like AMC to show us who Negan killed in the Season 6 finale of The Walking Dead,” the simple description for the petition reads. “We want this either in an interim episode that borders Season 6 and 7, or a short R-Rated webisode that shows us the death in all its bloody glory. Either of these are fine as long as it’s released before May 30th.”

The petition, which was originally started shortly after the episode aired, has already garnered more than 1,700 signatures.

This isn’t the first time fans have banded together to protest the series’ frustrating twists and turns.

In 2014, more than 65,000 fans signed a petition to resurrect Beth Greene, who died in the midseason finale in the series’ fifth season.

Fans of the popular AMC zombie series were shocked as they watched Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) take his spiked bat Lucille to one of the as-yet-unrevealed remaining 11 survivors — Daryl (Norman Reedus), Michonne (Danai Gurira), Glenn (Steven Yeun), pregnant Maggie (Lauren Cohan), leader Rick (Andrew Lincoln), Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green), Aaron (Ross Marquand), Rosita (Christian Serratos), Eugene (Josh McDermitt), Abraham (Michael Cudlitz) and Rick’s son, Carl (Chandler Riggs).

“The end of the story, is what people saw,” The Walking Dead showrunner Scott M. Gimple said during an episode of Talking Dead that aired immediately after the finale. “When we reveal who was on the receiving end there, that’s going to be the start of another story. The kickback effects from that — what it makes everyone into, how they react, how the world changes for everyone — that’s the next part of the story.”

The identity of the victim remains a mystery to even the cast, executive producer and director Greg Nicotero told Entertainment Weekly.

“We didn’t have anybody there because we didn’t want even somebody on the crew or somebody there to go, ‘Oh I get it, I know what’s going to happen,’” he said. “So I think they were all gone. We built a little rig for Jeffrey [Dean Morgan] to hit so that there would be impact with the baseball bat.”

Fans of the series will have to wait until the fall, when season 7 premieres, to find out who Negan finished off.
