Despite some harsh early reviews that the Edward-Bella romance is a bore, New Moon is still expected to earn more than $85 million during its first weekend (it has run up the biggest advance sales of any film in history). Opening in 4,024 locations, the vampire romance began its run with 3,500 performances at 12:01 a.m. Friday.
Sandra Bullock gives a homeless teen a new life in the true story The Blind Side, in theaters Friday. Bullock shows off a new sense of maturity and confidence in the heart-tugger as a wealthy interior designer who adopts a homeless high-schooler (Quinton Aaron). Tim McGraw also appears — he's barely recognizable! — in the drama, which Us gives three stars.
On Sunday, Jennifer Lopez will debut her new single "Louboutins" at the American Music Awards, airing on ABC at 8 p.m. Janet Jackson opens the annual music fete with an eight-minute medley of hits. Battling for the year's fan-decided Breakout Artist award? Lady Gaga, Keri Hilson, Gloriana and Kid Cudi.
If you're in the mood for a laugh, check out the just-released DVD of Sacha Baron Cohen's Bruno, about a gay fashionista who seeks fame in L.A. Using the same ambush techniques as 2006's Borat, the film delivers wicked laughs — though some views might find it offensive. Definitely watch with caution.
