Tiffany Trump Reacts to Mom Marla Maples’ Dancing With the Stars Elimination: ‘I’m So Sad’

She was fired. Tiffany Trump opened up to Us Weekly exclusively after her mom, Marla Maples, was surprisingly being booted off Dancing With the Stars on Monday, April 11.

Maples, 52, and her dancing pro partner, Tony Dovolani, were eliminated after performing a waltz to The Little Mermaid‘s signature ballad “Part of Your World.” The pair scored a lackluster 28 out of 40, and were edged out by Jodie Sweetin. Both competitors were shocked when they learned they were heading home, and Maples’ family members — who were seated in the audience section of CBS Television City in L.A., with Trump — were equally stunned.

Nevertheless, Maples was the standout of the evening in the eyes of her 22-year-old daughter. “I’m so proud of my mom,” Tiffany tells Us. “And I’m so sad that she was voted off! But I think every week she did better and better and she was the perfect Little Mermaid this week and last week I think she did an amazing dance to the song ‘Happy!’ I think everyone tries their hardest and she truly was amazing.”

A source tells Us Weekly that radio host Maples did not anticipate to be voted off at all and felt totally blindsided and disappointed. Still, an observer says Maples was “very lovely and gracious” about the entire process.

Indeed, Maples spoke to Us about the experience and said she was lucky to have her baby girl in the audience. “She just supports her mama, she’s in shock,” Maples says of her daughter. “She’s really sad. We’re all sad, but we have to trust there’s something bigger and better coming up!”

Maples spoke candidly to Us Weekly last week about the challenges of being a single mom — and sharing her only child with one of the most talked-about men in the world. Maples was married to GOP frontrunner Donald Trump from 1993 to 1999. After they split, she raised their daughter on the West Coast instead of NYC, where the rest of the Trump kids reside.

“The truth was, the challenge was being able to balance being a working mom and being there for a child full time,” Maples explained to Us. “Her daddy loves her, of course, but … I was the parent. I was the parent that was there in the flesh [and] with her all the time.”
