Spoiler alert?! If it were up to Taraji P. Henson, Diana Ross and Billy Dee Williams will portray Cookie’s parents in the upcoming second season of Empire. The actress dished her casting dreams to Us Weekly’s Sierra Marquina after snagging the Critics’ Choice award for Best Actress in a Drama Series for her portrayal of Cookie Lyon on the FOX breakout hit on Sunday, May 30.
“I heard that rumor too,” Henson told Us when asked if Oprah Winfrey will be joining the cast. “I won’t believe it until I see it, but I’m all for it.”
Even more so though, Henson, 44, is rooting for the Mahogany costars to reunite on-screen.
“My wish would be for Diana Ross and Billy Dee Williams to play my parents,” the Date Night actress revealed. “I have no idea [who it will be]. I [also] want Oprah too — I want the world!” she added, laughing. “I want everyone on the show — Bill, Hillary [Clinton] — come on! Everybody!”
The award winner, who stunned in a black studded Alexander Wang gown, was especially thankful for her peers’ recognition Sunday night.
“[They] were so happy for me,” Henson gushed. “I had to go somewhere deep inside so I didn’t cry and ruin my makeup. That blew me away. You could feel the love in the room…that meant the world to me.”
