Talk about an unlikely duet partner!
In a revealing new interview with Today's Matt Lauer, the 63-year-old Aerosmith frontman and American Idol judge dishes on the perks of living the rock 'n roll lifestyle in his later years.
What's been the biggest draw to moving from his Boston hometown where the band formed in 1970 to Los Angeles? His new network of A-list pals!
"I get to write songs with Johnny Depp," Tyler enthuses to Lauer during the chat, set at Tyler's L.A. pad. "I would have never done that being home [in Boston]. He plays music and I call him [and say] 'I'm coming over, we're going to write a song together.' He's like 'yeah, come over…tell me if I'm playing "Seasons of Wither" right,'" Tyler adds, referring to his band's 1974 hit.
And Pirates of the Caribbean's Depp, 47, isn't the only celeb Tyler has struck up a friendship with. Tyler told Lauer he frequently turns to 84-year-old Mel Brooks for advice on how to navigate the entertainment industry.
"I went and saw Mel the other day and I needed some words of wisdom so I had to drink from the pool this all comes from," the rocker says. "I talked to him and told him my problems. He gives me one word of wisdom and I walk out of there going 'Yes!'"
