‘The Real Housewives of Orange County’ Recap: The Ladies Take Sides in Shannon Beador and Kelly Dodd’s War

Forgive and forget! In the Monday, August 1, episode of The Real Housewives of Orange County, Kelly Dodd wanted to put the events of Shannon Beador’s party behind her, but the two found it more difficult than they thought they would, especially after all the other Housewives decided that Kelly’s claim — about having been set up by Shannon — made a lot of sense. … Oh, and Meghan King Edmonds went to D.C. to advocate for the passage of a bill, just in case you thought these ladies were all drama and champagne, all the time!

A Case of Post-Party Depression

The episode opened with Meghan getting her eggs removed, so they could be united with her husband’s sperm! The drawn-out IVF treatment was slowly but surely coming to a close just as Vicki Gunvalson’s friendship with Tamra Judge was slowly but surely starting to open up again. The next scene showed the two chatting in Vicki’s office, just like old times!

By showing Us clips from their conversation — along with chats between Shannon and her husband, David Beador, and between Kelly and her husband, Michael Dodd — the producers let the Housewives themselves retell the story of Shannon and Kelly’s epic fight from the party a few nights prior. Maybe you remember it?

Shannon seemed remorseful about responding to Kelly’s insults with more insults; meanwhile, Kelly wasn’t sorry at all. Kelly maintained that Shannon had set her up for an explosive failure by inviting women she had a rocky past with, and even Tamra couldn’t pretend it didn’t seem that way. To alleviate her case of the blues, Shannon went to an energy healer. Kelly just ranted to anyone who would listen. We all cope differently!

Babes on the Beltway

Meghan had more going on in this episode than just her IVF treatments. She went to Washington, D.C. to advocate for the passage of a bill that would help fund screenings for colorectal cancer, and she brought Heather Dubrow along with her! On the way to the airport, Meghan explained that Medicare doesn’t cover diagnostic colonoscopies. This led Heather to admit that the current expected copay was “insane,” before she admitted to wanting to go along to the nation’s capital because her own grandmother died of colon cancer.

Is anyone else tearing up? Just Us? Okay.

Once they touched down in D.C., the two grabbed dinner, and Meghan vented about her husband’s absolute lack of interest in the IVF procedure. She revealed that after her egg retrieval, she FaceTimed him from the hospital, only to discover he was out playing golf. A horrified Heather asked if he would be there for her embryo transfer, and Meghan was forced to admit that he would be missing that, too.

Luckily, Heather knows all about being married to a guy who is sometimes too busy for family, and she gave the younger woman a pep talk that seemed to make her feel better. The next day, Meghan was all set to address the conference on Capitol Hill!

Well … Meghan was almost ready. She stumbled through her speech a little in the beginning, but reminded herself that she was there in memory of her friend LeAnn Huntley Edmonds-Horton, who was also the mother of her step-children. With that in mind, Meghan nailed the rest of her speech.

“You guys are not fighters for no reason,” she told the survivors and family members in the crowd. “You’re fighters because we can cure this! This is a curable disease! LeAnn did not die in vain; you guys are all here for a reason.”

Better Fake Than Sorry

Tamra made a quick stop to see her trainer, Mia, and go over some poses for her upcoming fitness competition, then drove over to see Vicki and her daughter, Briana Culberson, at Briana’s new house. Looks like all of the drama between Vicki and Tamra really is over!

Perhaps hoping to follow a similar path, Kelly called up Shannon and asked to meet for coffee so they could talk about what happened at the party. After Shannon agreed, she texted Tamra, who called Meghan and Heather. The three of them went over what happened at the party, and all agreed that it looked like Shannon set Kelly up by inviting those ladies she hated. Uh-oh …

Shannon and Kelly met up for their drinks, and the younger woman tried to get the blonde to explain why she invited the ladies who started the brawl. Shannon got defensive, demanding to know why she was being interrogated when Kelly should be apologizing for calling her ugly. Then, we got this amazing dialogue:

“I apologize for that,” said Kelly. “I thought your outfit was, but I don’t think you’re ugly!”

“Who cares?” demanded Shannon. “You look like an Indian!”

“Are you saying Indians are ugly? Is that what you’re saying? You’re clearly insinuating Indians are ugly!”

Shannon sat stunned for a few seconds, amazed at how far off the rails the meet-up had gone. “No, I’m not,” she finally said.

They started yelling, while all the patrons of the restaurant stared at them. Kelly called Shannon a liar, and Shannon told her she should read an etiquette book. Shannon continued to insist that she didn’t set Kelly up by inviting her enemies, and they parted anything but amicably. Good thing there was a party coming up in a few days, and they were both invited …
