The Oscars attempted to prevent drawn-out acceptance speeches — and aggressive play-off music — during the 88th Academy Awards on Sunday, February 28, by introducing a new scroll feature during winners' acceptance speeches.
As previously reported, nominees filled out a scroll card of people they wished to thank during their acceptance speeches. The list of names then ran along the bottom of the screen during their big moment.
Viewers either loved or totally hated the new news-ticker-like feature.
“I hate the scroll at the bottom of the screen @TheAcademy #Oscars It has no soul,” one viewer tweeted, while another added: “#Oscars finally figured out how to allow their winners to congratulate everyone with this scroll at the bottom of the screen #smartmove.”
