So, that happened. The 2013 MTV Video Music Awards are just getting started, but the party at Brooklyn's Barclays Center is already well under way, thanks in part to Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke's insane, raunchy rendition of "We Can't Stop" and "Blurred Lines.
Taking the stage amid a bunch of giant teddy bears — an homage to the music video for "We Can't Stop," in which she dances suggestively with huge stuffed animals — the 20-year-old singer began the performance in a skimpy leotard adorned with the face of a bear. After singing a verse or two of her hit single, she stripped down to a nude-colored bra and matching underwear, as Thicke appeared onstage in a striped suit.
The two proceeded to perform Thicke's "Blurred Lines," with Cyrus grinding provocatively against the 36-year-old singer (married to Paula Patton). At one point, she appeared to be nuzzling his neck as he sang.
Us Weekly first revealed that the two would be performing together earlier on Aug. 25. "They're friends and she loves the song," a source told Us of how the collaboration came about. Added a second insider of the performance: "It's amazing. She comes out of a giant bear wearing a very provocative outfit."
Cyrus' "We Can't Stop" video is nominated for Best Female Video, Video of the Year, and Best Editing. Thicke's "Blurred Lines," meanwhile, is up for Best Male Video, Video of the Year, and Best Collaboration (with T.I. and Pharrell).
