Headbanging heroine! New Zealander Lorde hit the stage at the 2014 American Music Awards on Sunday, Nov. 23, but in place of her typically subdued, moody songs was the throbbing, punk-tinged “Yellow Flicker Beat” off the soundtrack for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1.
The teenage Grammy winner, 18, started off her performance in a box on the stage, before lifting up those walls and violently thrashing around in front of the roaring crowd. Wearing a white crop top and black pants, Lorde bounced around, whipping her long, curly locks back and forth.
No one was more excited for the song than Lorde’s bestie Taylor Swift, who opened the show with her new hit single “Blank Space.” The 24-year-old chart topper showed off her signature dance moves in the audience, cheering and grooving with her Victoria’s Secret model friend Karlie Kloss.
