It happened on a Wednesday, but they didn’t wear pink. A decade after Mean Girls premiered, the classic’s alums Lindsay Lohan and Daniel Franzese, who played Cady Heron and her too-gay-to-function bestie Damian, had a random run-in at Bodega Negra at Dream Downtown — a chic Mexican restaurant in NYC — on Wednesday, Feb. 5.
Lohan, 27, posted the epic photo with the caption, “@whatsupdanny #soquiche #werknyc.”
A source told Us Weekly, “They spotted each other across the restaurant and chatted for a while before walking out together, they gave hugs and went their separate ways, they both looked really happy to see each other!”
The restaurants guests immediately recognized the reunion, and “Everyone was so excited to see Cady and Damian reunite again and pose for pictures,” the source continued.
The iconic comedy was originally released on April 30, 2004, and with the 10-year anniversary right around the corner, director Mark Waters recently spilled some lesser-known casting secrets about the chick flick to Vulture.
Waters revealed that Freaky Friday star Lohan was originally cast as Queen Bee Regina George.
“When I gave it to her, she was like, ‘I f***ing love Regina George! This is exactly the part I want to play,'” he recalled. But when they did read throughs of the screenplay, they couldn’t find a Cady “strong enough to go up against Lindsay.”
After moving Lohan into the lead role, Regina’s part was up for grabs between Rachel McAdams (who finally landed the role) and Amanda Seyfried (who ended up playing Regina’s ditzy friend Karen Smith).
“She tested for Regina and was kind of brilliant, and very different than Rachel’s approach,” Waters said of Seyfried, now 28. “She played it in a much more ethereal but still kind of scary way. She was more frightening, but oddly, less intimidating.”
