Not what you think! Leonardo DiCaprio really didn’t dis Lady Gaga during the 2016 Golden Globes on Sunday, January 10. The Revenant actor explained his priceless reaction — he recoiled when the singer bumped into him — backstage at the Beverly Hilton hotel.
As previously reported, DiCaprio couldn’t stop laughing after Lady Gaga won the award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series or TV Movie for her work in American Horror Story. He was especially caught off guard when she passed him on the way to the stage, and the moment quickly went viral.
“That’s trending, huh?” DiCaprio, 41, said to Entertainment Tonight. “I just didn’t know what was passing me. I was like, ‘Oh!'”
DiCaprio had an overall stellar time on Sunday. The hunky star received a standing ovation when he won for his role in The Revenant in the Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama category. (He previously won Golden Globes for his work in 2004’s The Aviator and 2013’s The Wolf of Wall Street.)
The newly single star kept the party going well into the night. He carried around his statue to afterparties and was joined by best friend Tobey Maguire. Backstage, he also revealed that playing a mentally impaired child in 1993’s What’s Eating Gilbert Grape was the “biggest risk” he’s ever taken in his career. The drama also starred Johnny Depp and Juliette Lewis.
“I desperately wanted to do [it]. And it was the first time I got offered a lot of money to do this other role, and I waited. I am pretty proud of myself at that age that I was that passionate about something and a character,” he told reporters. “That paid off a lot for me because I got to work with pretty unbelievable people.”
