She’s on the edge of glory! Adding to the list of surprise victors at the 2016 Golden Globes on Sunday, January 10, Lady Gaga won Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television for her role as the Countess in American Horror Story: Hotel.
For her first-ever major acting prize, the 29-year-old pop star beat out such fierce competition as Queen Latifah (Bessie), Kirsten Dunst (Fargo), Sarah Hay (Flesh & Bone) and Felicity Huffman (American Crime).
“I feel like Cher in that John Patrick Shanley film Moonstruck right now,” Gaga told the crowd during her acceptance speech. “This is one of the greatest moments of my life.“
In the speech, she said she had always wanted to be an actress and thanked series creator Ryan Murphy, calling him “a wonderful human.”
However, one person who Gaga did not mention at the podium was fiancé Taylor Kinney.
The night has been notable for surprise winners, including Amazon’s Mozart in the Jungle nabbing the prize for Best Television Series — Musical or Comedy, and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend’s Rachel Bloom prevailing as lead actress for a TV comedy.
Lady Gaga’s was not the only winner’s speech of the evening to earn social media attention for omitting someone, as Sylvester Stallone failed to thank Creed director Ryan Coogler and costar Michael B. Jordan.
American Horror Story: Hotel airs on FX Wednesdays at 10 p.m.
