Many parents dream of the day their little girl will get married, but in the upcoming drama Jenny’s Wedding, two parents are caught off-guard when their daughter announces she’s engaged to a woman. The film, which stars Katherine Heigl as Jenny and Alexis Bledel as her fiancee Kitty, explores the difficulties some families face when a loved one comes out.
“Kitty and I want to get married, Mom,” Heigl, 36, as Jenny, tells her mother, Rose (Linda Emond), in the new trailer.
“You’re marrying your roommate?” her confused mother asks.
“She’s not my roommate, Mom,” Jenny replies.
The newly released two-minute clip features an emotional Heigl trying to convince her parents to support her decision to marry Bledel, 33. The film, which also stars Tom Wilkinson and Grace Gummer, hits theaters on July 31.
The indie film used an Indiegogo Campaign to raise money for the film’s soundtrack, raising more than $95,000 back in 2014.
The subject matter seems more relevant than ever in light of the Supreme Court of the United States’ recent landmark ruling legalizing same-sex marriage in all 50 states.
