It’s a wrap! ABC Family’s Melissa & Joey aired its series finale on Wednesday, Aug. 5. But after the show’s final curtain call, star Joey Lawrence had a few sweet (and funny!) words to share with the studio audience about his fellow cast and crew.
“It’s been an incredible ride. It’s not cliche to say that we’ll know each other forever,” the actor behind character Joey Longo, 39, says in an exclusive video ABC Family shared with Us Weekly. “It doesn’t always happen that way. You do shows you don’t ever want to see those people again. We all know that!”
But he wasn’t done dropping jokes yet. As he points out 20-year-old costar Nick Robinson, who played Ryder Scanlon, Lawrence notes that the young actor was shorter than costar Melissa Joan Hart when the series kicked off in 2010. “He’s turned me into Tom Cruise on my own show! I swear I said, ‘If I do any more seasons, we’re building a trench … he’s gonna walk in a trench!'” the 5-foot-8 actor laughed.
