Well, that’s one way to form an alliance. Survivor’s season 33 Millennials vs. Gen X will feature, yep, a steamy romance, host Jeff Probst exclusively tells Us Weekly.
“There’s rarely a love interest,” Probst, 54 explains to Us. “Man, they stink. Their hormones are off. They’re not eating. But leave it to the millennials to give us a little love! It’s a fun one.”
Eager viewers won’t have to wait long to see the connection heat up on the beaches of Fiji, either. “It blooms early and, in typical millennial style, they’re not very concerned about hiding it, which baffles some of the other people,” continues the Emmy winner. “They’re like, ‘What are you doing forming a couple?’”
(Reminder: “Boston” Rob Mariano and Amber Brkich began dating while on Survivor: All Stars in 2003. The pair married in 2005 and now are parents to four daughters.)
Naturally, admits Probst, hooking up suits the younger tribe’s overall personality. “There’s this idea in the millennials that, ‘You know what? What’s the big deal? We’re falling in love, let us fall in love!’” he adds. “I was amazed at the brazen nature of it because typically on Survivor, people would go, ‘Wait a minute. That’s two votes. We’re going to get rid of one of you.’ But it’s fun to see young love. And they’re both good looking.”
Sure, they’ve got the beauty, but do they also have the brains to track down the hidden immunity idols? “This season, we literally hide them in nature meaning to get an idol, you have to find it inside a coconut, a shell or a piece of driftwood,” he teases to Us. “What’s cool about it is you can’t tell that there’s an idol in the shell or a coconut because the Survivor art department is so good! The contestants know one of these shells has an idol. But they can’t keep picking up shells because everybody’s looking at them like they’re collecting things for grandma!”
