Oh, snap! James Corden came for an internet troll who wished cancer upon his children for seemingly spilling a Game of Thrones spoiler.
When the 40-year-old host of The Late Late Show with James Corden spoke about the United States’ trade war with China, he slipped in a reference to the acclaimed HBO series’ fifth episode from its eighth and final season.
“I feel like this trade war is going to end with [President Donald] Trump riding on the back of a dragon, torching the entire economy,” he joked, showing a still that references the show’s penultimate episode. “You laugh, but it could [happen]. You don’t know.”
A clip of the gag was shared to Corden’s show’s official Twitter page, but the joke didn’t sit well with one angry fan. They attacked the English host for his apparent spoiler.
“It’s f–ked up, you can’t even watch TV without a fat f–k spoiling something,” the individual tweeted. “Luckily I got to see it before this, but seriously I hope his kid gets cancer.”
In response, Corden tweeted, “That is, without question, the single most upsetting thing I think you could ever say about me or my family,” he wrote. “Please take a minute and think about what you just wrote and whether you want to be a person who publicly says such things. I believe you’re better than that.”
The troll replied to the Peter Rabbit actor by arguing his attack was merely a “joke, you know like this segment was.” Corden, however, was still unamused.
“Well I saw your hope for my son,” he began, “My hope for yours is that they never get to read that their mother or father would wish cancer on any child as ‘a joke’. Because however you defend it to them, they’ll never be able to understand how you could do such a thing. Night x.”
Corden is a father to three young children: Charlotte, 12 months, Carey, 4, and Max, 8, with wife Julia Carey, 41. The internet troll’s Twitter account was later suspended after receiving negative responses from Corden and his fans.
