Idol’s Pia Toscano: What Kind of Album I’ll Record

Less than a week after her shocking premature exit from American Idol, Pia Toscano is ready for the future — and ready to hit the recording studio!

During an April 11 visit to's New York City headquarters, the 22-year-old New Yorker played coy when asked to confirm Us' exclusive April 9 report she's finalizing a record deal with Interscope Records, but was forthcoming on what type of music will appear on her debut album when it is indeed released.

"I'd like to do a pop album with an R&B influence," Toscano tells Us, adding that she'd be thrilled to hit the studio with producers like Ryan Tedder, Rodney Jerkins and Ron Fair. "I definitely want to have those big ballads with the uptempo hits as well."

In the meantime, Toscano — who will hit the road on the Idols LIVE! summer concert tour — says she's been overwhelmed by the fan and celeb support in the wake of her elimination.

"I was in the bubble [during Idol], so I didn't realize I had so much support," the singer says, counting judge Jennifer Lopez as one of her biggest cheerleaders. "The first thing she said to me when she got on stage [Thursday] night was 'I've had so many doors slammed in my face and don't you ever give up. I'm here for you if you need me.' Just having her support is amazing because she's someone I've looked up my whole life."
