Hilary Duff Likely to Be Dropped from Film Due to Pregnancy

Has Hilary Duff's first-time pregnancy cost her a major film role?

It's looking likely. On Monday morning, TMZ reported that Duff, 23, was dumped from The Story of Bonnie and Clyde, a developing flick in which she was set to play the titular bank-robbing heroine. (Faye Dunaway was nominated for an Oscar playing the same role in 1967's Bonnie and Clyde.) Duff's just-announced pregnancy throws a wrench in the indie's planned production schedule.

"While production has been pushed several times due to financial, scheduling and other factors such as Tornados devastating some of our locations, we are currently gearing up to start production later this year," producers of the film told Us Weekly in a statement.

"Unfortunately, we now are faced with scheduling conflicts with our leads Hilary Duff and Kevin Zegers. We were told that Duff would not be available until June 2012 and that Zegers would not be available until January of the new year."

The baby-to-be will be the first for Duff and husband Mike Comrie.

"Due to our obligations with investors and international buyers, it is imperative that we stick to our current schedule. Therefore, we are forced to explore other options for the two lead roles. Unfortunately this happens all the time in the world of filmmaking."

"It's down to money and producers. They want the product delivered," the flick's director Tonya Holly told Us. "[Hilary] still loves the script! These guys aren't really interested in waiting. We know she'll be a wonderful mom. So we are really happy for her."
