She left nothing unwritten! Heidi Montag blessed fans with a liveblog of The Hills: That Was Then, This Is Now special on Tuesday, August 2, on Broadly, and she let out all her mixed emotions about her famous frenemy Lauren Conrad.
“Lauren is narrating all our lives again. Surprise! It’s all about Lauren. Blogs have advertised the show as a ‘reunion,’ but it’s really an LC special,” she sniped of the MTV tell-all for the show’s 10th anniversary.
Reliving the drama of her early twenties wasn’t easy for Montag, who started off as LC’s bestie and ended up being villainized along with her now-husband, Spencer Pratt. “Watching these scenes give me anxiety. For years, I’ve avoided watching these arguments … I feel like I’m watching found footage from a horror movie. My falling out with Lauren makes me sad, even years later. We were so young, but the show could have ended different. We could have gone to dinner, agreed to disagree on our issues, and made up.”
The special also showed unearthed footage of Kim Kardashian’s cameo, where she chats with The Hills cast, stepbrother Brody Jenner and other pals at a party. “KIM KARDASHIAN!!! I love her! She was always so nice and sweet. She attended our housewarming party and loved my jellyfish,” she wrote.
But after a brief Kardashian tangent, Montag, 29, was back to grappling with her feelings about the Paper Crown designer. “I’m struggling to watch Lauren cut me off,” she blogged. “Emotionally, physically — she shut me down in every way. She refused to listen to me or give me a chance.”
“Brainwashed is the most annoying word,” she continued of Conrad’s favorite term for what Pratt, now 32, allegedly did to Montag. “I never started a rumor about Lauren. I had nothing to do with Lauren and her choices, and it’s unfair that a decade after the show started, everyone still blames the drama on Spencer and me,” she wrote, referring to the infamous accusation that Speidi spread a rumor that Conrad made a sex tape with her ex-boyfriend Jason Wahler.
By the end, Montag praised Conrad as a “role model” for her charity work and said she’s glad Conrad has found love with husband William Tell. “I am so happy for Lauren and her marriage,” she penned. “Everyone deserves love like the relationship I have with Spencer. Love is so important, and she deserves happiness. I wish Lauren the best.”
“Overall, this special is a great Kohl’s commercial,” she wrote (and we totally can’t tell if she’s being genuine or throwing shade). “I want to go to Kohl’s right now. I’ll buy some of Lauren’s clothes. They’re cute!”
She concluded her liveblog by summing up all her feelings about the beloved MTV show. “Honestly, watching the special helped me appreciate my time in the mid-2000s and helps me move on with my life,” she blogged. “The show was fun and special, and I took the best part of The Hills with me, Spencer. When I see clips of him, my heart still skips a beat.”
On the other hand, Pratt revealed on Twitter that he didn’t watch the TV event for the show that made him famous. “Watching paint dry tonight not #TheHills bs special,” he wrote. When a fan asked if he was part of the special, he replied, “Nobody is but Kohl’s.”
