Glee’s Kurt Hummel Crowned Prom Queen

The identities of Glee's prom court may have been spoiled online weeks ago, but that doesn't mean Kurt Hummel's decision to stand next to David Karovsky and accept his prom queen title was any less emotional.

As the above video clip from Tuesday's episode shows, Kurt (Chris Colfer) was initially gutted upon learning his McKinley High classmates nominated him as a write-in candidate.

"We thought that because no one was teasing us or beating us up, progress was being made," Kurt told his boyfriend, Blaine, through a fit of tears after the announcement was made. "All that hate, they were just afraid to say it out loud so they did it by secret ballot."

Rather than let the haters win, Kurt then stepped to the stage to get crowned — with closeted jock Karovsky (Max Adler) as his king.

"Wasn't this prom supposed to be about redemption, about taking away the lump you had in your throat from running away [from confrontation]?" he asked Blaine (Darren Criss). "If we leave, all it's going to do is give me a lump too. I'm going to go back in there and get coronated."

Later, when Karovsky declined Kurt's request to dance — and reveal his true sexuality — Blaine made a bold move and stepped in to dance with his man.

"[As prom queen,] I'm going to show [my classmates] that it doesn't matter if they're yelling at me or whispering behind my back, they can't touch me," says an emotional Kurt. "They can't touch us. Or what we have."
