This time around, fans are fuming! Original Ghostbusters star Dan Aykroyd and director Ivan Reitman have teamed up to develop a male-centric reboot of the beloved flick, which will go up against Paul Feig's pending project starring Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig.
Reitman confirmed the news himself to Deadline, which also reported on Monday, Mar. 9, that Channing Tatum will join the team as a producer and actor.
"We want to expand the Ghostbusters universe in ways that will include different films, TV shows, merchandise, all things that are part of modern filmed entertainment," Reitman explained to Deadline. "Paul Feig's film will be the first version of that, shooting in June to come out in July 2016."
Reitman lauded the talent slated for Feig's version of the reboot, which stars McCarthy, Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones. "He’s got four of the funniest women in the world, and there will be other surprises to come," the director reflected to Deadline. "The second film has a wonderful idea that builds on that. Drew will start writing and the hope is to be ready for the Russo Brothers’ next window next summer to shoot, with the movie coming out the following year. It’s just the beginning of what I hope will be a lot of wonderful movies."
Despite his warm words, Twitter reacted rather sarcastically to Reitman's announcement on Monday evening, making "Ghostbusters" a trending topic.

I don't care what gender the new Ghostbusters are – when can we talk about the fact that ghosts don't exist

I'm for an all-ghost Ghostbusters, in which the main characters grapple with the existential ramifications of being ectoplasmic quislings.

My fear is that the new "male" Ghostbusters will be too busy worrying about their prostates to adequately bust ghosts.
