Closer to home! Game of Thrones‘ first season 7 teaser was revealed at the hit HBO series’ San Diego Comic-Con panel on Friday, July 22, with the cast and creators weighing in on some of last season’s biggest moments. (That means you, Hodor!)
Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa Stark, quipped to the crowd that her character didn’t tell Jon Snow (Kit Harington) about the Knights of the Vale because “she wanted all the credit,” not to mention that “it makes for really good television.”
So does Sansa think that Jon is the right fit for the Iron Throne? The actress who portrays her has some doubts.
“I’m not sure she thinks Jon is capable of running Winterfell and the North,” Turner said. “I don’t think she thinks he has the intellect, the experience — and I concur.”
Kristian Nairn, who played the late Hodor, admitted to being taken aback by the fans’ support after the tragic death of his character. “I did not expect it to be so crazy,” he said of viewers’ response. “I’m really flattered.”
Isaac Hempstead Wright (Bran) was asked about the season 6 finale reveal that Jon’s dad is Rhaegar Targaryen. Wright suggested that perhaps Jon Snow isn’t actually a Targaryen after all, and joked that perhaps incest was involved.
Moderator Rob McElhenney (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) presented several videos, including a teaser trailer with a brief hint at season 7. At the end of the clip, Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) can be heard saying, “Welcome home, my queen.”
Another video was a hysterical sketch in which McElhenney and Sunny costar Charlie Day were inserted into the Westeros action.
HBO recently announced that season 7 will consist of just seven episodes, rather than the customary 10, and won’t begin airing until summer 2017, as producers want to wait for the weather to cool down before shooting begins.
