You gotta have Faith! Country superstar Faith Hill took to the stage inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, on Sunday, May 17, for the 2015 Billboard Music Awards, where she joined Little Big Town to perform the band’s controversial single “Girl Crush.”
The band’s lead singer Karen Fairchild kicked off the melody in a sequined, cherry minidress paired with over-the-knee black boots.
Tim McGraw‘s gorgeous wife — pixie cut and all — then joined in during the second verse of the song, where she expertly belted out the lyrics of the tune and harmonized perfectly with the entire band. Meanwhile, the group had the entire arena entranced by the melodious song helmed by Hill and Fairchild in perfect unison.
While the BBMAs crowd seemed to thoroughly appreciate the performance on Sunday, the single “Girl Crush” has incited some controversy from critics saying the lyrics had gay undertones. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the song was pulled by several country music stations due to its “lesbian themes” and “gay agenda.”
The lyrics of the saucy hit include: “I want to taste her lips / Yeah, ’cause they taste like you / I want to drown myself / In a bottle of her perfume/ I want her long blonde hair / I want her magic touch / Yeah, ’cause maybe then / You’d want me just as much / I got a girl crush.”
Despite its bumpy road to the top, the single has experienced massive commercial success. The tune from LBT’s sixth studio album, Pain Killer, has already landed at the top of Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart.
At the end of the performance, Hill and Little Big Town were greeted by cheers and admiration from their fellow stars. The cameras featured Empire actress Taraji P. Henson mouthing the words, “Beautiful,” while former country singer turned pop sensation Taylor Swift stood up to applaud the group.
