Ryan Murphy tells Us Weekly that exes Emma Roberts and Evan Peters will reunite on-screen in American Horror Story: Hotel months after ending their engagement.

Back together? Emma Roberts and Evan Peters are reuniting — on-screen, at least, for the upcoming season of American Horror Story, creator Ryan Murphy tells Us Weekly. At a screening of Murphy and Roberts’ latest collaboration, the Fox horror comedy Scream Queens, the Glee mastermind revealed that the two exes — and AHS costars — will both appear in the later episodes of Season 5, AHS: Hotel.

“She comes at the end, and she has a great thing with Evan Peters at the end,” Murphy dished to Us. After Roberts finishes filming Scream Queens, she’ll head back to Los Angeles to film several episodes of the FX anthology series — with her ex-fiance. “Emma’s going to do a fun thing at the end with Evan. That’s all I can say,” Murphy added.

Roberts, 24, and Peters, 28, who starred together in seasons 3 and 4 of AHS, began dating in 2012 and got engaged in late 2013, and news of their split broke just last week. Multiple sources confirmed the news to Us Weekly, adding that conflicting schedules were partially to blame.

While Murphy wouldn’t reveal anything else about the former couple’s new AHS characters, he did hint at the type of story the Lady Gaga-headlined season would follow.

“The one thing that I wrote that I’ve never gotten over was in the first season of American Horror Story, our second episode was about a home invasion. I really got freaked out, and I had to leave the editing room a couple times,” he explained. “I have other fears, but after that, I’m like, ‘I’m never going to write about things that I’m freaked out about.'”

But after several seasons that explored the terrifying aspects of asylums, witches, and circuses (“I think it’s hilarious that people are afraid of clowns,” he quips), Murphy is revisiting what scares him.

“I want to write about something I’m afraid of to see what happens. So Season 5 of Horror Story, I’m back to that home invasion,” he said. “I find it very hard, but I feel like maybe I’m working through s—. I’ve tackled my fears. I can’t tell you what they are because then you’ll get what it’s about, but I went back to that, and I haven’t had in a while.”
