The new Adele Dazeem? On Thursday, Dec. 10, the 2016 Golden Globe Awards nominations were announced live from the Beverly Hilton hotel. One of the presenters was two-time Golden Globe nominee Dennis Quaid.
Though the actor looked confident while reading the list of Best Actress in a Drama nominees, he stumbled when it came time to pronounce actress Saoirse Ronan’s name for her role in Brooklyn.
“Sheesha Ronan,” he declared.
Naturally, Twitter immediately reacted to the funny flub.
“Sheesha Ronan is today’s Dick Poop. But I will never forget. #GoldenGlobes,” @AmyKinLA tweeted. And @TheGreatHumbug noted, “Really excited about Sheesha Ronan and Adele Dazeem’s upcoming Netflix series. #GoldenGlobes.”
This past May, Ronan, 21, told Us Weekly exactly how to pronounce her name, saying, “I pronounce it Sir-sha like inertia.”
Some of her fans knew about the trick, tweeting, “Sheesha Ronan, though… #itrhymeswithinertia #goldenglobes.”
Others, like @rilaws, knew it was part of the struggle that certain actresses go through all the time, tweeting, “Would love to see Sheesha Ronan and Elizabeths Moths in a project together,” referencing Mad Men star Elisabeth Moss.
