When The Hills went off the air in July 2010, the final scene showed an emotional Kristin Cavallari saying goodbye to Brody Jenner before she left for Europe — as a stripped down version of Natasha Bedingfield‘s “Unwritten” played in the background, of course. Moments later, Cavallari’s town car stopped, she got out, and the camera crew emerged — alluding to the idea that the MTV reality show had been, at times, semi-scripted.
The network re-aired the popular season this summer, and on Friday, Aug. 9, it debuted an alternate ending to the show that made Heidi Montag a star. In this version, Jenner still bids Cavallari farewell — but instead of the soundstage reveal, it cuts to Jenner revisiting his ex, Lauren Conrad.
“Where you been?” Conrad asks. “I was just saying goodbye to a friend of mine,” Jenner replies.
“You okay?” Conrad continues. “Yeah, I’m all right,” Jenner says.
“It’s hard to say goodbye,” Conrad reasons. “Yeah,” Jenner agrees. “It is.”
