Doing it for the kids. Ben Affleck insisted that he and Jennifer Garner are continuing to put the kids first, during a conversation with Ellen DeGeneres that will air later today, Wednesday, March 16.
The 43-year-old actor, who split from his wife of 10 years back in June last year, was clearly uncomfortable discussing his private life, but was evidently eager to make sure everybody knew his kids were his No. 1 priority.
“I know it’s been kind of a challenging year, obviously,” DeGeneres said as she introduced the topic of his divorce. “And what I love, and I think what everybody loves, is that you and Jen are putting the kids first and that we see you with the kids all the time, and I think that’s the most important thing and the most important message to send to everybody.”
“Absolutely,” replied Affleck. “You know, we’re good friends, and we’re doing our best and our kids are fabulous, and we’re working our best for them.”
The Oscar-winning star then moved on to the topic of his new movie, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and revealed that his son, Samuel, 4, was at the forefront of his mind when he made the decision to take on the role.
“I haven’t done anything that my kids could see for a long time, so I thought that would be kind of cool. … My son thinks it’s really cool. He came to the set. He saw me. He was a little bit suspicious. He was like, ‘Is that the real Superman?'” Affleck said, full of paternal pride.
“He’s 4, so to him that’s the real Superman. When I leave, he’s like, ‘Dad are you going to the Batcave?’ So I’m like, ‘Yes, I am.’ And I know eventually he’s going to be in therapy, like, ‘He lied to me! There’s no Batcave, he’s doing Ellen!'”
Later on in the show, DeGeneres lightened the conversation somewhat — by giving her guest a full-on superhero fright and inviting him to play a game of Pie Face!
