Bachelor bummer! Luke Pell, who was one of the front-runners to become the next Bachelor, reacted to Nick Viall getting the gig via Twitter on Tuesday, August 30.
“Thx for all the love sometimes we are faced w/unexpected changes,” Pell, 31, tweeted. “I’m happy to be back in Nash excited for the future.” The war veteran also posted a photo that read: “Trust God’s timing, He has a plan for everything.”
Pell recently appeared on JoJo Fletcher‘s season 12 of The Bachelorette. Hearts shattered when he was sent home just moments after he said “I love you” to the 25-year-old Texas-based real estate developer.

Earlier this month, Us Weekly exclusively revealed that ABC producers were considering Pell to be the season 21 Bachelor. “It’s looking like Luke right now as the next Bachelor, but there are a couple others on the back burner in case he doesn’t work out,” a source told Us at the time. Other contenders included Fletcher’s runner-up, Robby Hayes, and fellow season 12 contestants Chase McNary and Wells Adams.
“It’s a possibility,” Pell told Entertainment Tonight in July. “I definitely would not pass on it!”
Pell even had Fletcher in his corner. “If you ask me personally, I think both Luke and Chase are great options,” she told Good Morning America on August 2. “I think Robby is a great choice too,” she added of her runner-up. “But when I sent Luke home, America died. There was an overwhelming amount of support and love for him and I totally get it.”
Some Bachelor Nation fans were rooting for him too. “Update: Luke Pell is not the next bachelor and I am not a happy camper this morning,” one tweeter wrote. A second added: “And now @Luke__Pell isn’t the new bachelor??? Ugh worst week ever.”
