Ariana Grande is one smooth operator. The “Bang Bang” singer opted for a change of pace at the 2014 American Music Awards on Sunday, Nov. 23, performing slowed-down, jazzy versions of her hit songs “Problem,” “Break Free,” and “Love Me Harder.”
Gracing the stage at L.A.’s Nokia Theatre in a floor-length, see-through, black lace gown — and with her hair half-up instead of in her trademark high ponytail — the 21-year-old pop star let her Mariah Carey-esque vocals shine. She was accompanied by just a few instruments, including a saxophone and a piano.
After renditions of “Problem” and “Break Free,” Grande was joined by The Weeknd for their new collaboration, “Love Me Harder.” The track is the third single from the chanteuse’s second album, My Everything.
At one point during the Sam & Cat alum’s performance, the cameras flashed to her brother Frankie J. Grande, who sang along and danced to his sister’s tunes. Frankie also made a splash earlier in the night, when he walked the red carpet in a painted-on “shirt.”
