A fragmented brood. Kim Zolciak-Biermann and Kroy Biermann had a strained relationship with the football player’s parents before their 2023 split.
The Real Housewives of Atlanta alum and the former NFL player met in 2010 during a charity event that was filmed for the reality show. The twosome hit it off and began their whirlwind romance, tying the knot the following year. Their November 2011 nuptials were broadcasted on the RHOA spinoff, Don’t Be Tardy for the Wedding, which later became the pair’s own Bravo series, Don’t Be Tardy.
Throughout their time on the show, the former couple documented their journey as they began their family and juggled personal and professional matters. Kim and Kroy welcomed sons Kroy “KJ” Jr. and Kash in 2011 and 2012, respectively, followed by twins Kaia and Kane in 2013.
During Don’t Be Tardy’s third season, the twosome confessed that Kroy’s parents, Kathy and Keith Biermann, did not approve of their relationship because the “Tardy for the Party” songstress was the mother of two daughters from previous relationships: Brielle and Ariana, who was born in February 1997 and October 2001, respectively. Kroy, for his part, went on to adopt Kim’s daughters in July 2013.
“Kroy’s parents weren’t very happy with our marriage. I’m not picture-perfect, I had two children before I got married to your son … ” Kim admitted during a confessional in a 2014 episode. The professional athlete chimed in, “You are picture-perfect, but you’re not picture-perfect to them.”
Kroy continued: “That’s life. You’re gonna have problems with your family. We’re humans, we all make mistakes, we all go through problems, but at some point, you have to put some more love, some more work back into that f–ing relationship on both sides., If you never do that, it’s over … it’s frustrating that the kids can’t see their grandma and grandpa.”
The former Atlanta Falcons linebacker went on to cut ties with parents following the drama, saying in 2019 that he did not “jive” with them. Kim, meanwhile, is estranged from her mom and dad as well.
In May 2023, news broke that the Bravo personality filed for divorce from the Montana native after 11 years of marriage. While Kim did not specify the reason for the split, she and her estranged husband were experiencing financial woes with their Georgia residence. Us Weekly confirmed in February 2023 that the duo’s home was in foreclosure.
