Teyana Taylor and Iman Shumpert’s relationship was nothing but net prior to their 2023 separation.

The Masked Singer season 7 champ and the professional basketball player first crossed paths at a 2011 party — though Taylor was not interested in a potential romance at the time.

The duo’s friendship soon evolved into a romantic connection by 2014. One year later, the Brooklyn Nets athlete proposed.

Taylor and Shumpert — who share daughters Iman “Junie” Tayla Jr., born in 2015, and Rue Rose, born in 2020 — remained each other’s No. 1 cheerleaders as their careers continued to rise.

“I’m too secure in my s–t to be worrying about that,” Taylor exclusively told Us Weekly in October 2021 when asked about Shumpert’s Dancing With the Stars chemistry with pro partner Daniella Karagach. “We have to do movies and TV shows, and I have a love interest and stuff like that — it’s just part of the job. I honestly think that their chemistry is amazing.”

Shumpert — who won season 30 of DWTS — and Taylor ultimately separated two years later.

2011

The We Got Love Teyana & Iman alums first met at a party, though Taylor thought the pro athlete had “too much going on” to pique her interest.

“I did not like him at first because when I first met him, he had just got drafted. He was young and doing a lot,” Taylor recalled during a May 2018 appearance on the Wendy Williams Show. “I was at a party. He was drunk and had his shirt off. It was just too much going on, baby. We eventually wound up becoming friends, and I actually shot him for one of my styling companies.”

November 2015

Nearly one year after the couple debuted their romance, Shumpert proposed with a ruby engagement ring.

December 2015

The couple announced in September 2015 that Taylor was pregnant with their first child. Daughter Junie was born on December 16.

“At 6:42am in our bathroom Junie decided she wanted to take her first breath into this world,” the fashion stylist wrote via Instagram at the time. “She came out as a wonderful surprise to everyone! Not knowing I was in labor until I felt her head. It took two 10-count pushes with my fiancé playing Dr. and she entered this world into his bare hands! … She opened her eyes right away, gazed into mine and never cried! He handed her to me wrapped in our bath towel and wiped her face for me to see what LOVE really is. She has blown Christmas away! Our family is complete. Her blueprint will be unmatched.”

September 2016

Taylor revealed during a Wendy Williams Show appearance that the pair had tied the knot. She gushed: “I have a beautiful baby [and] a wonderful husband. … [Iman’s] a smart man. He’s like, ‘If anything was to ever happen, that ring alone, you’re already set. ‘I’m like, yaaas, I like your style!’”

March 2018

The pair starred in their own reality TV series, Teyana & Iman, on VH1, documenting their relationship. The program was canceled after six episodes.

September 2020

Taylor announced she was pregnant with baby No. 2 in June 2020, debuting her baby bump in her “Wake Up Love” music video. Daughter Rue — who was also born in the family’s bathroom — completed the brood on September 6.

October 2021

“I think once you see one another, that I miss you sex is the best so I think that is the spark, like, not being up on each other all day,” Taylor exclusively told Us of how the couple manages long distances apart. “So it’s just like you are admiring one another like, ‘Damn, you’re doing your thing, you’re doing your thing.’ Let me be doing this for our kids, so when we see each other, it’s nothing but love and just comfort and spice.”

December 2021

Taylor was hospitalized in November 2021 after her body “shut down” on her, leading the singer to cancel a Mashantucket, Connecticut, concert. 

“She’s fine. It is one of those things where an artist is on tour overworking herself,” Shumpert later told Us at the People’s Choice Awards, revealing his wife was on the mend. “[She] wanted the show to be better and probably stayed for rehearsal a little too long. Didn’t get the rest and had to pay for it with some dehydration.”

He continued at the time: “She wanted to make it work, but she also didn’t want to put anybody in danger because she just wasn’t feeling herself. She got her IVs, guys. She’s good, I promise.”

October 2022

“They say we are most alive when we are in love. … Which is confirmation to me that we will live forever,” Taylor wrote via Instagram, celebrating their wedding anniversary. “There isn’t a day, minute, second or breath that I am not in love with you. Year 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹 as one & forever more to go.”

September 2023

Taylor confirmed via Instagram that she and Shumpert have been separated “for a while."

“To be 1000% clear, ‘infidelity’ ain’t one of the reasons for our departure,” she wrote on September 17. “We are still the best of friends, great business partners and are one hell of a team when it comes to coparenting our 2 beautiful children. Most importantly we are FAMILY & in the 10yrs together, 7yrs married we ain’t ever played with or about THAT. We just keep y’all asses out the group chat lol, which is the reason we’ve been able to successfully & peacefully separate without all of the outside noise.”
