Real Housewives of Beverly Hills couple Kyle Richards and Mauricio Umansky have shared insight into their sudden split after 27 years of marriage. Us Weekly confirmed in July 2023 that the couple were taking time apart. “Kyle and Mauricio have been separated for a while, but are still currently living together,” a source revealed at the time, revealing that they “are amicable while they figure out the next steps.” The Bravo stars, who have shared insight into their relationship since they joined the RHOBH in 2010, got married in 1996 and share daughters Alexia, Sophia and Portia. Richards also has a daughter, Farrah Aldjufrie, with ex-husband Guraish Aldjufrie. After news of their split broke, Richards and Umansky were quick to confirm that they were going through “a rough year,” but shut down rumors that they had plans to divorce. “In regards to the news that came out about us today,” the duo shared in a joint statement on Instagram at the time. "Any claims regarding us divorcing are untrue.” The twosome also appeared to slam speculation that there was any wrongdoing in their relationship, amid ongoing questions about the nature of Richards’ friendship with Morgan Wade. “While it may be entertaining to speculate, please do not create false stories to fit a further salacious narrative,” the statement concluded. “Thank you for the love and support. The Initial Statement

They revealed that “claims regarding us divorcing are untrue,” in a joint Instagram statement in July 2023.

“However, yes, we have had a rough year,” the post read. “The most challenging one of our marriage. But we both love and respect each other tremendously. There has been no wrongdoing on anyone’s part. Although we are in the public eye, we ask to be able to work through our issues privately.”

How the Family Feels

Richards said she, Umansky and their daughters “felt better” after the news of their separation broke.

“So many people were speculating and making up stories and it was just getting out of control,” she shared in a July 2023 Amazon Live.

Dealing With the Public’s Reaction

Richards confessed that the separation “has been very hard to do [because] it’s playing out with so many people having eyes on us and [with us] being in the public eye,” in an Amazon Live from August 2023.

“Obviously, we care about each other a lot,” she added. “That’s what I’m going to share with you. [It’s] just too much to deal with right now.”

Clarifying Their Relationship Status

“We were dealing with our own things, kind of, super quietly and internally, just our own issues,” Umansky confessed on The Agency’s “Red Mic” podcast in September 2023. “I mean, certainly, we’re not separated. We’re not divorced at this point. We are not any of that stuff.”

He was referring to them being “not separated” when the split news broke.

Where They Stand Now

Umansky confirmed that he and Richards are “currently separated” while speaking with TMZ in September 2023.

“We are not talking about divorce. We’re trying to deal with this stuff internally, with ourselves, privately,” he added. “It’s very hard when people interpret everything you’ve said.”

The ‘RHOBH’ of It All

Amid their relationship issues, the RHOBH trailer was released in October 2023, and Umansky told Us Weekly exclusively that he avoided watching it — but he will.

“I got to know what everybody’s talking about. Yeah. But I haven’t watched it on purpose,” he shared.

At one point the trailer Richards and Umansky discussed cheating rumors, and the realtor jokes he’s “glad” the rumors aren’t about him. Richards replied, “For once it’s me.” (The former couple has denied cheating rumors in past seasons of the show.)

The Separation Is ‘Hard’

“We’re in the middle of dealing with our life and our marriage and we have not thrown in the towel,” Umansky exclusively told Us in October 2023. “We are still working on it. And it’s hard and it’s hard in the public eye and it’s hard while everybody’s asking because the reality is that when a couple’s going through the times that we’re going through right now, what you need is time.”

Umansky explained that they’re in a “transition” period and “there’s a lot of stuff” to “figure out” about their future.

“We’ve been married for 27 years and she’s been my best friend forever,” he added. “We’re not hiding anything. We legitimately do not know what that looks like.”
