No, not him! A man named Vladimir Putin, not to be confused with the president of Russia, was recently arrested outside a Publix in West Palm Beach, Florida, a local affiliate NBC6 reports.
Putin, 28, was arrested after he yelled at employees and refused to leave the supermarket, a member of the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office told the outlet.
As a way of explaining his outburst, Putin told authorities that he missed his ride home, according to WPEC. He was handcuffed at the scene and charged with trespassing. Additionally, he faces a charge of resisting an officer without violence. (Not surprisingly, news anchors are having a field day with his headline-making name. Putin was held at a detention center in West Palm Beach before appearing in court on Monday. He was released from custody on Tuesday and is due back in court in late September.
Putin’s arrest has gone viral thanks to his famous name. “Wow, life is really crazy. Can you believe it? Vladimir Putin arrested … in a Florida supermarket,” one person joked via Twitter.
Even GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump was asked about the incident. “.@realDonaldTrump Do you or your campaign have an official statement about Vladimir Putin being arrested at Publix?” a second commenter tweeted.
During his campaign for president, Trump, 70, has waffled regarding the status of his relationship with the Russian president, 63. According to NBC News, Trump said last year that he and Putin bonded over an episode of 60 Minutes. In July, however, he claimed that they never met.
As previously reported, Trump’s elder daughter, Ivanka Trump, recently vacationed with Putin’s girlfriend, Wendi Deng, in Dubrovnik, Croatia. Us Weekly exclusively confirmed in March that Putin and Deng, the ex-wife of media mogul Rupert Murdoch, were dating.
