Heads up! Two Canadian teens accidentally walked across the U.S. border on Thursday, July 21, while playing the popular game Pokémon Go. According to ABC News, the two were apprehended by U.S. Border Patrol agents after they were spotted walking southbound from the Canadian province of Alberta into Montana.
The agents soon determined that the teens were unaware they had crossed the international border because they were so wrapped up in their game.
“Both juveniles were so captivated by their Pokémon Go games that they lost track of where they were,” the agency’s public affairs officer, Michael Rappold, said in a statement. “They crossed the international border inadvertently, but agents were able to reunite them with their mother.”
Authorities declined to release the teens’ names or ages or to describe the terrain that they crossed, only noting that the duo were found near Sweet Grass, Montana.
This isn’t the first odd incident that has happened since the Pokémon Go craze started earlier this month.
Since its launch on Tuesday, July 5, players have discovered dead bodies, taken part in stampedes in public spaces and even been duped after armed robbers lured them to secluded places.
Celebrities like John Mayer, Chrissy Teigen, Tyga and Justin Bieber have spoken out about their obsession with the addictive game.
