Gymnasts all glammed up! Four of the Final Five took the stage at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, August 28, to present the Best Female Video — to none other than Queen Bey herself.
Madison Kocian, Aly Raisman, Simone Biles and Laurie Hernandez could barely contain their giggles and glee as they stepped up to the podium to thunderous applause.
But before they could present Beyoncé with her award for the night, they had to clarify that their group was far from complete.
“The fifth member of our team, Gabby Douglas, is having medical issues, and unfortunately couldn’t make it tonight,” Biles, 19, said. “Feel better, Gabby.”
Douglas, 20, was hospitalized earlier in the day for an infection stemming from a past mouth surgery, her rep told Us.
“Gabby is back in the hospital tonight being treated for a seriously infected past mouth injury,” her rep said. “She continues to have deep swelling and adverse reactions to medications.”
The four gals, however, had more than enough excitement to make up for their missing teammate when they announced Beyoncés video for “Hold Up” as the winner over tough competitors including Adele’s “Hello” and Rihanna’s “Work.”
Hernandez later tweeted about the iconic moment: “I just hugged Beyonce.”
