Taylor Swift thought that Calvin Harris was The One. A source reveals exclusively to Us Weekly that the “Love Story” singer was ready to settle down with the Scottish DJ, from whom she recently split after nearly 15 months of dating.
“She used to talk about their future a lot — marriage, babies. And although he wants all of that, it just felt a bit like she was all full-steam ahead, whereas he is more of a slow and steady, let things progress organically, kind of guy,” the insider tells Us.
“It’s a shame because Taylor is a lovely girl,” the source adds. “But it just obviously wasn’t meant to be.” As Us confirmed, Harris was the one to pull the plug.
Swift, 26, first met Harris, 32, at the Brit Awards London in February 2015. They became an official couple one month later and appeared more serious than ever while celebrating their one-year anniversary this past March. The couple celebrated with a tropical getaway, and Harris gifted the pop star with a gold heart-shaped locket necklace. The relationship was Swift’s longest to date.
Despite the split, the exes appear to be on good terms. Harris broke his silence about the split via Twitter on Thursday.
“The only truth here is that a relationship came to an end & what remains is a huge amount of love and respect,” Harris wrote. Swift, ahem, swiftly retweeted him.
“It was simply a case of not being right for each other,” the source adds to Us. “They grew apart quite quickly, and although he tried to give her what she wanted, he felt like they’re just in different places. There’s no one else involved.”
Swift, meanwhile, is taking the split well. “It just wasn’t working anymore,” a second source previously told Us. “She’s OK.”
