Susan Sarandon and Debra Messing probably won’t be grabbing coffee together anytime soon. The stars’ political feud escalated via Twitter on Wednesday, March 30, after Sarandon made headlines for an interview in which she talked about presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.
“Well, you know, some people feel Donald Trump will bring the revolution immediately. If he gets in, then things will really explode,” Sarandon, 69, said during an MSNBC interview on Monday, March 28. After facing some backlash on Twitter, she clarified her remarks and said she would never vote for the GOP presidential front-runner.
Nonetheless, the controversial comment agitated Debra Messing, among others. The actresses exchanged words on social media on Tuesday, but the tension grew after Messing, 47, retweeted a post that read: “@DebraMessing = national treasure. @SusanSarandon = national embarrassment.”
Sarandon spotted the interaction, and replied: “.@DebraMessing now RT-ing personal attacks. Cool. Right, the diff is I’m not RT attacks on u to 350K+ followers.”
Messing deleted the retweet but continued to voice her political opinions. She even directly tweeted at Sarandon while attending Clinton’s LGBT event at the Capitale in Manhattan on Wednesday night.
“@SusanSarandon Where are you?!” Messing captioned a photo with Rosie O’Donnell. “Hillary’s asking for you! Rosie covered, said you were in the bathroom. @rosie.”

She had said Bernie is a revolution. Saying Trump would hasten the revolution implies a vote toward Trump. https://t.co/ZZU9xO9JR8

I believe she meant a “revolution” was needed and if not thru Bernie, than at least thru Trump. https://t.co/sv1cAkqq37
