Um? Puerto Rico’s Miss Universe 2016, Kristhielee Caride, was stripped of her crown after winning it just four months ago.
According to Univision, Desiree Lowry, the director of Miss Universe Puerto Rico, announced the decision during a press conference on Thursday, March 17.
“I saw the damage that she was doing and the damage that she was doing to the organization,” Lowry said.
According to reports, the official, who was with Caride for an interview with a local paper, was displeased when the 24-year-old beauty queen said, “I just do not like cameras.”
“I wanted the earth to swallow me,” Lowry said of watching the interview, according to the Associated Press. “You always have to put your best face forward. … It’s a given that we are going to be in front of cameras and that we have to answer all types of questions.”
The AP reports that Lowry also noted Caride didn’t apologize for the unfortunate interview but said it would never happen again. She then went on to cancel other press events and reportedly would not reschedule.
In a lengthy Facebook post, the disgraced pageant winner apologized for letting anyone down. “It was never my intention to make you feel bad, hurting or damaging the image of those who have helped me to be where I am today,” she wrote in Spanish.
In her place, the organization announced Brenda Jiménez as the new Miss Puerto Rico Universe 2016.
