Chickens, zebras, royals, oh, my! While Duchess Kate and Prince William continued their cross-country tour of Canada on Tuesday, September 27, their children visited a petting zoo, multiple sources confirm to Us Weekly.
Prince George, 3, and Princess Charlotte, 16 months, played at the Beacon Hill Children’s Farm in Victoria, British Columbia. They were joined by their nanny, Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo, and other security. The facility was opened especially for them and closed to the public.
“George had the chance to pet a baby moose,” a source tells Us. “And Charlotte was able to see baby pigs, goats and alpacas.”
The farm is a five-minute drive from the Government House in Yukon’s city of Whitehorse, and is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, both 34, attended a reception at the Government House on Monday.)
The Beacon Hill Children’s Farm opened in 1985. “Our goal is to help children develop a respect for animals that will remain with them for life,” its website reads.
This isn’t Prince George’s first time at a zoo. Back in 2014, Princess Charlotte’s big brother, then 8 months, admired a small bilby at the Taronga Zoo in Sydney, Australia, with his parents. He memorably stole the show when he squealed with delight in Duchess Kate’s arms.
The royal family kicked off their eight-day tour of Canada on Saturday. “Catherine and I are delighted to be back in Canada. When we were here last time [in the summer of 2011], we had been married only three months,” Prince William said during a speech on Sunday. “The warm welcome that you gave us at that important moment of our lives meant a lot to us — and we have never forgotten it. That is why we are so pleased that George and Charlotte can be with us in Canada this time around, beginning their own lifetime of friendship with this wonderful country.”
